The Corner: My favorite new reality show

It's always flummoxed me that the National Review is considered, for some reason, a "respectable" media outlet. From their history of virulent racism, to their strangely illiterate current crop of editors, I really see no reason that these people are taken any more seriously than your average wingnut blogger.

However, The Corner has been a source of much fun for me in the last few days. It's like a reality show, where the object of the game is deny reality for as long as possible. Every few days, now, someone lets a little bit of objective reality in, and gets voted off. I'm biting my nails, wondering who will be next; who will be the next person whom the Cornerites decide they never really liked in the first place?

Let's take a look at some of those already voted off the island:

Voted off: Christopher Buckley, son of the NR's founder.

Voted off:David Frum

  • Crime: Pointing out that maybe Sarah Palin was not the best choice of VP.
  • Denunciations: Mark L. says that he's kissing up to the media to get invited to the cocktail parties; K. Lo says ... well, I actually have no clue what she's trying to say, but it's something about betraying conservatism.

And finally, my personal favorite:
Voted off:Jonathan Adler

I know I'll be tuning into the final episode of Survivor: National Review on November 5th, when the first person to mention yesterday's election gets thrown off the island.

Yeah, besides KJ's disconnected from any tenious connection with reality screeds, there are some of the best comments from the wingnuts this side of Free Republic at NR.

Man, I bet when Sarah Palin winked, not only Rich Lowry stood up straight, a lot of pent up sexual frustration from those losers on those blogs...

On Nov 4th, we elected "the smart guy" and the world celebrated!

Wonderful. This should be a regular feature of MyDD in the election run-up.

Maybe we should get involved? Perhaps with a "who will break next?" weekly poll.

Thanks. Way I see it, if things keep going the way they are, opportunities for Schadenfreude will abound. It seems almost too easy.

It's sad (none / 0)

I enjoy the Corner.  Or used to.  I think they're letting the partisan hacks (K-Lo, Goldberg, McCarthy) run out the conservatives who call it like they see it (Derbyshire, Adler, Nordlinger).

K-Lo in particular is Hewitt-like in her ability to see nothing but great news . . . for McCain/Palin!  And I also like how McCarthy is disgusted with the McCain campaign for not running dirty enough.

Good conservative blogs: Dreher, Volokh, Outside the Beltway . . . is that really it?

Re: It's sad (none / 0)

Agree completely. I hope that this election separates the real conservatives from the more nutty hangers-on; as glad as I am that the democrats will finally be running the country, they need a real, principled opposition party to keep them honest. The current iteration of the GOP is not that party.
A couple other good conservative blogs I'd add to your list: Larison at American Conservative is pretty good; and Dave Weigel at Reason, while really a libertarian, is usually worth reading.
